WORLD GIRLS ICE HOCKEY WEEKEND

 

The IIHF World Girl’s Ice Hockey Weekend (WGIHW) is an international celebration of the women & girls’ game. Throughout the last decade, Hockey Canada has proven to be a leader by reaching hundreds of thousands of young Canadian girls through this event. The WGIHW creates a national sense of community; anyone in Canada can register to host their own event that works to recruit engage Canadians in the sport of hockey.

Funding will be available through the Hockey Canada foundation to host women & girls initiatives. All events must be held in October / November 2025.

Examples for the types of events that could be hosted are:

  • Skills Sessions
  • Tournaments / jamborees
  • Try hockey sessions
  • Coach / Officiating development
  • Skill Development Seminar for players, coaches, parents
  • Skills development Seminar for players, coaches or parents
  • Celebration / party

A max of $1,000 will be allocated to each event that is approved.

The deadline to submit applications is September 1st, 2025.

Aligning with other Hockey Canada programs such as First Shift and Esso Fun Days, the World Girls Hockey Weekend will adopt the same process for application, registration, and event management for the 25-26 season.

All event applications and registration must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) to ensure a streamlined process. Overview of the process is below.
