Hockey New Brunswick Provincial Championships – Update

January 27, 2021

Hockey New Brunswick Provincial Championships – Update

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the decision has been made to cancel the 2021 Hockey New Brunswick Provincial tournaments, originally scheduled to be held throughout the province from March 26 - 28.

Given the current Government of New Brunswick guidelines specific to team sport tournaments not being permitted, and with the safety of all members being of utmost importance, the hosting of provincial tournaments this season is not feasible.

Each year in the U13, U15 and U18 divisions, approximately 150 teams and 2,500 players compete for an HNB Provincial Championship.

The cancellation will give leagues more time to plan the current season and provide play for all teams. All league championships being held will need to follow a play-off format or single elimination game format as opposed to tournaments.

Provincial leagues will still have the ability to name a provincial champion through a play-off format. Further updates on a play-off format will be communicated by the respective leagues.

It’s essential that the Hockey New Brunswick membership review the HNB Return to Hockey Guidelines, the Hockey Canada Safety Guidelines, the GNB Frequently Asked Questions and the guidelines for the facilities they use on an ongoing basis.

Additional COVID-19 resources are available at https://hnb.ca/en/covid-19.
