Jake Allen’s Program 34 donates $15,000 to Hockey New Brunswick
St. Louis Blues goaltender and Frederictonian Jake Allen has donated $15,000 to Hockey New Brunswick through his charity, Program 34.
Allen, who won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in June, presented HNB President Todd Pye with a cheque on Aug. 30.
“Hockey New Brunswick oversees the sport in the whole province. They’re the pros who know what’s going on in the hockey community,” says Allen. “They know what will benefit players and programs and will make sure it’s done right.”
“HNB is pleased and humbled to receive this generous donation from Jake’s Program 34,” says Pye. “This funding will be used to help under-privileged children access hockey programs in New Brunswick. We are very grateful for Jake’s continued support.”
Program 34 provides funding to non-profits based in New Brunswick. In the past four years, the group has raised more than $300,000 through cash donations and in-kind support.
Allen spent many of his formative hockey years within the organization and says providing support to hockey programs has always been a priority.
“My hope is that this funding will allow more kids to play hockey. It may even result in more New Brunswick players in the NHL,” says Allen.
He says he’s in a position to be able to give back and it’s important to him to show his love for New Brunswick.
“I’m fortunate to be where I am, so I have an opportunity to do these things and spread the wealth. I really love where we’re from and it’s a no-brainer to raise money for organizations in New Brunswick.”
The annual Jake Allen Classic golf tournament has been a major fundraiser for Program 34. The fifth iteration will take place in 2020 and Allen has his eyes on breaking the $300,000 barrier strictly in cash donations.
“We want everyone to come out and help us raise as much as possible for non-profits in New Brunswick,” he says. “It’s a high-end event and everyone who attends is coming for the right reasons – to give back to our communities.”
