Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to award the J. Charles Daigle Award to Andy Clark.

The J. Charles Daigle Award was established in 1976 in memory of Charles Daigle to recognize exemplary individuals at the executive level. Award criteria includes character, dedication to the sport, ability to organize and administer, and outstanding contribution to the improvement of hockey within New Brunswick.

Andy is an active volunteer with the New Brunswick Hockey Officials Association and contributes to the growth and development of officials. He has served as a level five official for several years and supervises and mentors younger officials when called upon.

He is responsible for organizing and assigning officials for several divisions: U13 AAA male and female; U15 AAA male and female; U18 competitive A and C; U18 AAA female; Junior C; high school male and female; and senior. Andy also invoices all aforementioned levels in regards to payment of officials, as well as issues payments.

Andy’s community involvement is an example of his passion for growth and development. He helps administer officials clinics in Zone 2 as well as serves as game incident report co-ordinator. He is a volunteer soccer and volleyball coach, in addition to being an active volleyball official. He is president of the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association, the governing body for high school sports in the province. Andy is also principal of Hartland Community School.

Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Tower as the Female Commission Chair.

Jennifer has been actively involved in Female Hockey throughout South East New Brunswick over the past five years. Her roles include; SEFHA Vice President (Zone B), a Board member with Hockey Dieppe Memramcook as well as being the Chair for a number of tournaments and Manager for various Teams.

Jennifer is currently the owner / Dentist at Mountain View Dental Group. She’s also a member of the New Brunswick Dental Societies, and their representative for the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Georges-L-Dumont.

Originally from Bathurst, Jennifer now resides in Dieppe with her husband and three daughters.

Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to announce that Restigouche North Minor Hockey has been named Minor Association of the Year for the 2020-21 season.

The Minor Association/Community Club of the Year award was established in 1992 to recognize a minor hockey association in the province that exemplified the true spirit of minor hockey during the past season and encouraged their members to participate under the Fair Play values.

Despite a challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, RNMHA maintained quality service for its members and took proactive measures to ensure the association was well positioned for future seasons.

In less than two years, RNMHA has improved their financial stability dramatically. The association also created a volunteer committee to help find new sources of revenue in an attempt to continue the positive cash flow. Despite losing many Quebec-based players this season because of COVID-19 restrictions, RNMHA maintained 80% of its registrations from the previous season.

Many operations have been digitized, including finances and communications, to allow the association to run more effectively and efficiently – providing more to their members with less. They created a website to manage players and ice. It houses scheduling, registrations, guardian contacts, team personnel contacts, meeting minutes, and tournaments.

Development is a priority for the association. In the 2020-2021 RNMHA has had the highest volunteer certification compliance rate out of any other minor hockey association in the province. They utilize time allotted by HNB for hockey development weekends and offer speciality clinics supported by the Campbellton Tigers. The association has implemented dedicated practices for female players in an attempt to grow the game and has been accepted into the First Shift program to continue its momentum for the 2021-2022 season.

Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to award the 2020-21 Jim Stirling Scholarship to Faith Foster of Ashland, N.B.

The Jim Stirling Scholarship, valued at $1,000, was established by B.F. Lorenzetti and Associates Inc., insurance brokers for Hockey Canada. In 1996, when B.F. Lorenzetti began sponsoring a program for Hockey Canada that allows each branch to present a bursary to a deserving Hockey New Brunswick member who can demonstrate their financial need.

Faith has always felt at home on the ice, starting at age 10 when she first learned to skate. She quickly developed her skills and in middle school was playing hockey at the high school level. At 16, she joined a male team as there was no longer a female league in her community that she qualified for. Although it was a challenge, Faith met it, and on the ice with her team was where she felt she belonged.

Hockey has truly had a positive effect on Faith’s life in many ways. Being involved with hockey has allowed Faith to build friendships and give back. In her last year of female hockey, she developed a bond with an international student from Germany who had never skated before. Together, they built a lifelong connection. Faith has also volunteered helping kids to skate and hopes her experience can encourage other girls to get on the ice. Faith feels hockey has not only helped her realize who she is, but makes her feel like she has a purpose.

Faith will be attending New Brunswick Community College in 2022 in the practical nurse program. Before COVID-19, Faith was a volunteer at her local nursing home.

Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to award the 2020-21 Tracy Arsenault Memorial Women’s Hockey Scholarship to Myriam Richard of Saint-Antoine, N.B.

The Tracy Arsenault Memorial Women’s Hockey Scholarship, valued at $3,000, is a privately funded scholarship established in Tracy Arsenault’s memory by her widowed husband, based on a proposal made by Tracy prior to her passing. The award requires support from the applicant’s former coach or referee-in-chief.

Myriam puts her whole heart into everything she does, whether on the ice or in the classroom. Her hockey career has taught her valuable skills, including the importance of hard work and the correlation to success. Myriam is a straight-A student with a 95% average and has served as assistant captain of her hockey team for the past two seasons.

Helping others is an important value to Myriam. In June 2016 she was selected to travel to Costa Rica to assist communities in need, repairing schools and delivering supplies. Myriam hopes to join the Doctors Without Borders program one day to continue providing aid. This is in addition to her volunteerism at the Moncton SPCA and with various school groups.

Myriam’s favourite way to give back is through the growth and promotion of female hockey. When possible, she provided on-ice support while female teams practiced and she has volunteered at the annual DQ Female Tournament for the past six years. Myriam also supported on-ice sessions with Hockey New Brunswick ahead of the Canada vs. USA Rivalry Series in Moncton in 2019. She plans to continue her involvement with female hockey through coaching and mentoring.

Tracy Arsenault was a lifelong hockey fan who was passionate about the growth of female hockey, despite never playing herself. She loved watching players graduate and become community leaders.

Myriam has been accepted to the Université de Moncton to study health and hopes to attend medical school in the future.
