HNB Female Hockey Breakthrough
Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to award the 2020-21 Female Hockey Breakthrough Award to Kathy Higgins of the Kennebecasis Valley Minor Hockey Association.
The Female Hockey Breakthrough Award was established in 2004 to recognize an individual who has actively participated in the promotion of female hockey in the current season. Priority is given to grassroots volunteers who surpass role requirements and expectations.
Kathy is the female director for the KVMHA, overseeing nine female teams from U9 to U18. Under her direction, the association introduced a new female AA U15 team for the 2020-21 season to continue challenging and growing their players’ skills.
Despite a challenging year with many health and safety restrictions, female hockey is experiencing tremendous growth in the KVMHA, due in no small part to Kathy’s passion and enthusiasm. She is dedicated to her position and goes above and beyond to ensure every girl who wants to play has the opportunity.
Called the Queen of Female Hockey in her association, Kathy is always raising the bar and seeking new avenues to provide female players with development opportunities. She also emphasizes community involvement and has organized fundraisers, parades, and “give back” challenges. Kathy has her players’ best interests at heart.
Congratulations to Kathy on her achievements.
