2021 ATLANTIC HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED
On Friday, the Atlantic branches announced that regional championships have been cancelled at all levels
FREDERICTON, NB. – The Atlantic Canadian provincial hockey branches announced today that regional championships will not be held in 2021.
In a joint statement on Friday, the Atlantic Canadian branches announced that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Atlantic championships have been cancelled at all levels of hockey. The events are usually held in March and April at divisions from U13 to Junior on a schedule that sees the tournaments rotate through the Atlantic provinces on an annual basis.
Tightened Public Health restrictions in the region, concerns over travel, and the health of our membership and the wider Atlantic Canadian community were some of the main considerations in a decision that was unanimously supported by Hockey New Brunswick, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador, Hockey Nova Scotia, and Hockey PEI.
Earlier today, Hockey Canada announced that all of the 2020-21 hockey season’s national tournaments have also been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The provinces that were scheduled to host Atlantic championships this year will now host those events in 2022. The four Atlantic branches will determine host teams and host sites later this year.
